Home Automation is pretty much about what it sounds like... automating your home in
various means and methods.
We started off with a few X-10 modules and a controller.
In general X10 is convenient and practical. In practice, it can sometimes be very
disconcerting (having bright lights turn on in the middle of the night all
by themselves!).
See our Weather Station, online since 2002.
The next project involves
MisterHouse.
To date (2005 August) after trying each new version of Misterhouse, my general impressions are:
It takes more horsepower than I have available (500 MHz)
It runs better under windows than linux redhat 8/9
It desperately needs a wizard like first time configuration script. I keep
putting in a new version, then try to find the TV guide codes for my non-USA area,
put it in, restart and still get default TV listings! arrg! Dozens of other examples
are like this.
