Astronomy
I've been interested for decades, started off with a good pair of Minolta 10x50
extra wide angle binoculars (7.8 degree view) in 1986 for about $120 and finally got around to getting my first telescope by
building a 7" f4.5 dobsonian telescope in 1998 for about $360.
I like to build things, so combining this with my astronomy interest, we get
Amateur Telescope Making (ATM) and
our (Kim & I)
Starlight Cascade Observatory. In addition, I've been a contributing
member of the 60cm Venor Telescope Project,
the 20cm Fitzgerald Telescope Project
and the 20cm Barney the
Purple Telescope Project.
Here are a couple of image galleries of recent astronomical events:
Total Lunar Eclipse 2004-10-27
Best of Transit of Venus photos 2004-06-08
I completed the
RASC Messier Certificate in 2003, the
RASC Exploring the Universe Certificate in 2006,
and am working on the Finest NGC and IK Williamson Lunar certificates.
I've also done a little
variable star observing for the AAVSO
with observer initials of kkl, with plans
to do more.
RASC-KC (The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Kingston Centre)
and the
Royal Astronomical Society of Canada are good places
for astronomical resources and information.
The Clear Sky clock is an amazing local observing resource, with cloud/clear sky
predictions for your specific area.
